Empowering Relocation Decisions

XY Health collects and analyzes vast amounts of health, environmental, weather, and lifestyle data across the USA. Partnering with us, they created an app that provides detailed information on pollution, amenities, safety, sports facilities, and more. This empowers users to make informed relocation decisions, offering a comprehensive understanding of neighborhoods for easier and better decision-making.

Challenges

The project faced challenges in understanding and organizing diverse data points for users to find the right neighborhood, visualizing complex data for easy understanding, and designing intuitive experience for effortless information access and comparison.

1.

Understanding and Categorizing Data Points

Clarifying the role of each data point and grouping them meaningfully was complex. For example, pollution data is crucial for asthma sufferers. Creating an intuitive system for easy access to this diverse information was essential.

2.

Data Visualization

Transforming spreadsheet data into clear and comprehensible visuals was a significant challenge. Each data point provided unique insights, necessitating distinct visual representations. Ensuring users could easily grasp the data at a glance was crucial for effective decision-making.

3.

Designing an Interactive Map

Users needed a way to visualize health, environmental, lifestyle, and overall scores on a map. They wanted to switch between scores and see color-coded grades in a shaded view. Designing an interactive map that allowed for easy analysis and comparison was particularly challenging, especially in a mobile-friendly format.

4.

Simplifying Complex Data

Explaining complex data points and outcomes to users required a clear and simplified interface. We redesigned the UX copy and presentation to make the information easy to consume and understand, even for users without deep data knowledge.

Stakeholder Interviews

Stakeholder interviews are vital for understanding project needs and priorities. For XY Health, we conducted these interviews to gather essential insights, guiding our design and development.

How do users currently gather information about neighborhoods when considering a move?

What specific factors are most important to users when choosing a neighborhood?

How do users prefer to interact with the app when comparing neighborhoods?

How important is it for users to have access to educational content about the data points used to evaluate neighborhoods?

User Interviews

User interviews are essential for understanding the end-users' needs and behaviors. For XY Health, we conducted these interviews to gather valuable insights, ensuring our design met user expectations and requirements.

Are you currently renting or owning your home?

What are the main reasons for considering a move?

What are the most important factors for you when choosing a new neighborhood? (e.g., safety, amenities, environmental quality)

How do health considerations (e.g., air quality, proximity to healthcare) influence your choice of neighborhood?

What sources of information do you currently use to research neighborhoods? (e.g., websites, apps, word of mouth)

How satisfied are you with the information available from these sources?

What specific amenities or features are must-haves in your ideal neighborhood? (e.g., parks, schools, public transportation)

How do you currently compare different neighborhoods?

Pain Points

Identifying pain points is crucial for addressing user frustrations and improving their experience. We analyzed user feedback to pinpoint key challenges, ensuring our solutions effectively resolved these issues.

Lack of Dedicated Platforms

There is no specific mobile app or website designed specifically to help users find the perfect neighborhood tailored to their needs

Lack of Awareness

There is a lack of awareness on how to find a good place that aligns with one's health, environmental, and lifestyle preferences

Manual Data Collection

Users currently have to manually collect and collate data for each score, which is tedious and requires a significant amount of effort, leading to low user engagement

Niche Requirements

Users have very specific requirements when choosing or shifting to a new place, making it challenging to find a neighborhood that meets all their needs. It not about finding the best it’s all about finding the right one.

User Flow

User flows map out the user journey, ensuring intuitive and seamless navigation within the app. We drafted detailed user flows including business validations to create an intuitive UX

User Persona

User personas represent key audience segments, guiding design decisions. For XY, we developed three unique and detailed personas to tailor our solutions to specific user needs and preferences.

Wireframes

Wireframes offer a clear layout, focusing on functionality and user experience before final design. Finally culminating to an output that the users and the client loved. Following are some of them.
